Here are some of the most common questions we are asked.
Frequently Asked Question
The word “Chiropractic” is taken from two Greek words and literally means “manual practice”; or, in other words, treatment by manipulation.
Chiropractic is an independent branch of health care that specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the joints, particularly those of the spine. A Chiropractor carries out treatment by specific manipulation and other treatment techniques. Drugs and surgery are not used.
Chiropractors are Doctors, highly trained on the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, with an emphasis on treatments which include, joint manipulation, patient education, physical therapy modalities, manual therapy, nutrition and rehabilitation exercises. Chiropractic adjustments involve qualified practitioners applying, using their hands or a small instrument, specific and controlled thrust to a spinal joint to improve the movement of the spine as well as your body’s physical function
Your Chiropractor should have completed a 5 – year full time degree or postgraduate master’s course recognised by the General Chiropractic Council.
In the UK, chiropractic is a regulated profession. In common with medical practitioners and dentists, all chiropractors are registered by law under the Chiropractors Act 1994, and the title ‘Chiropractor’ is protected under this legislation. The profession is statutorily regulated through the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and it is illegal to practice as a chiropractor without being registered with the GCC.
No. It is illegal for anyone in the UK to use the title ‘Chiropractor’ or to imply that they are a Chiropractor unless they are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC).
By law, the GCC must
- check those who apply for registration to make sure that they have a Chiropractic qualification, are of good character and are physically and mentally fit
- set and monitor standards of education and training
- set standards of practice and conduct
- deal with any complaints about the conduct or practice of Chiroprators
During the Initial Consultation, or the first visit, a full case history is taken. As well as asking details about your principal disorder, your Chiropractor will want to know details of your past medical history. They will examine carefully the area that is giving you trouble and other areas that are relevant.
We may ask for other diagnostic tests like ultrasound scans, MRI scans, and may also refer you to other professionals, for tests or future management.
Following your examination, you will return for a Report of Findings and your first treatment. We will give you a full explanation of our findings, and discuss a treatment plan with you.
Occasionally, you may be advised to return to your GP or we may recommend another Therapist, or Consultant, if we feel that Chiropractic is not the right treatment for your condition.
Treatment will be appropriate to your age and condition and may be manipulation of joints, soft tissue massage, or another relevant alternative therapy.
Typically, the Initial Consultation takes about 45 minutes.
Follow up treatment appointments are approximately 30 minutes, dependant on your needs.
All patients respond differently. Some patients feel energetic following treatment and others feel extreme relaxation or tiredness, due to the sudden release of muscular tension.
Various forms of treatment may have differing effects on you. Manipulation and physical change is applied to your body, altering your body's mechanics, and therefore can cause some discomfort.

Our Clients Reviews
We are proud of the excellent reputation we hold in our community. Our patient’s satisfaction and happiness is fundamental to our success, and we work hard to maintain our own high standards.

I initially went for my headaches, which I was having almost everyday of the week. Im now down to maybe one a week if that and when I do now it’s due to a build up of stress. My neck felt like concrete before my first appointment and I don’t experience the agony of that anymore which was triggering my headaches. I also told her about my shoulder pain I have been getting recently and she has been treating me for that too and in a couple of weeks it has become a million times better. Kim has treated something that I have previously been to the doctors for a number of times and I don’t get anywhere with them for weeks before I get any sort of treatment. I wouldn’t go to anyone else ever, I feel so much better in such a short space of time. Literally life changing for me.

I work a very physically demanding job and suffer from an achy, painful back and neck. I should have booked in ages ago, but recently had my first session with Kim. Within minutes she diagnosed what my issues were and what was causing them. Kim made me feel very welcome, she was very professional but at the same time was very easy to get on with personally. I've come away from my first session feeling incredible and will definitely be booking in regularly. 10/10 would recommend.

After various appointments with Physio's, Osteopaths etc I'd lost hope of ever being pain free.....and then I found KP Chiropractic! Kim diagnosed the underlying root of my pain and worked on that. Within days I noticed a huge difference and for the first time in a long time, I'm pain free. I can't recommend Kim highly enough!

Kim has been really helpful and understanding with my fitness and mobility goals, always supportive and incredibly knowledgeable. The results I've seen are great and would thoroughly recommend KP sport to anyone finding mobility issues.

Kim has really helped get my health and fitness back on track. After years of chronic pain, 2 hip replacements, a lower disc problem and arthritis I was struggling mentally and physically. After 6 treatments with Kim and regular daily stretching I am feeling so much better, more flexible with less pain and a much brighter outlook. I cannot recommend KP chiropractic enough. Very thorough and professional service with proven positive results for me. Thank you so much Kim
